Whether it’s your first week on the job or you’ve been around for years, your future matters to us. That’s why, while many startups aren’t in a position to be thinking about career growth, we’ve intentionally invested in learning and development as a core function of May Mobility. And we are proud to say that we’ve successfully established a continuous learning culture that helps each employee across multiple levels: on-the-job learning, peer-to-peer instruction and formal training. When you come to work at May, you can feel assured that you’ll have the tools and resources you need for success.
A key part of our continuous learning culture involves decentralized learning and development. In other words, we provide the resources and trust you to know what you need. That way, each employee can learn at their own pace and focus on the areas they need most. It may be a different approach than you are used to, but believe me when I say this innovative approach is making a difference.
Our autonomous driving kit (ADK) team is a great example of how this works every day. As a team, they regularly discuss what they need to know more about to continue to be successful. Then they turn to the various course catalogs that May makes available to employees. We love seeing how a variety of business and technical courses help our employees to enhance their strengths or develop new knowledge and skills. Knowing where they need to improve, the ADK team takes a 10- to 40-hour university level course every quarter. By helping each other out, everyone improves together and then they immediately apply what they learned directly to the jobs that they are doing.
But access to course catalogs is just the tip of the iceberg. We have an amazing range of talent here at May Mobility; there are experts across so many fields who have unique learning and growth needs. Whether it is job specific materials about writing software or something general like developing good habits, we enable employees to make a plan for holistic learning and development at their own pace. We also encourage employees to learn in real-world situations, like taking on unique projects or working on cross-functional teams to get exposure to other areas and ways of working, and to develop new skills and competencies. At May, you can steer your future in the direction you want it to go.
One of the most common questions our recruiters receive is “how will you support my career growth?” One of my goals is to help everyone develop a growth and career development plan. If you have an idea of where you’d like to be over the next three, five or ten years, we’d like to help you make that possible. Think of it like driver’s ed. You are behind the wheel practicing different maneuvers while we advise from the passenger’s seat and help you course correct when it’s needed until you’re ready to get your license.
So, what are the steps to accomplish this? We use a performance measurement platform where you determine your objectives and key results, track your progress, and plan for one-on-ones with your manager. We have also developed a competency model to help you see what is needed to take the next step in your career, whether that be taking on more responsibility within your current team or making a lateral move to a role that better fits your interests. We give you all the tools you need to be able to build a case for yourself and provide hard evidence that you’ve accomplished what’s needed to move forward. Our team will be with you every step of the way. And we don’t just help to build strong employees, we develop exceptional leaders too.
We have put a lot of time and effort into creating our Leaders AcadeMAY to help current leadership (managers, directors, VPs and C-suite) and emerging leaders guide our company forward. The Leaders AcadeMAY helps leaders at May lean into their leadership potential, build on their unique experiences and strengths, and drive their careers. Split into four essentials, we teach our employees how to 1) lead growth and development, 2) lead with emotional intelligence, 3) lead high performing teams and 4) lead performance. These courses use a combination of the Learn Amp experience platform and virtual workshops to help each employee feel confidant in their ability to lead their teams and this company toward success.
So, if you love learning and are looking to take the next step in your career, May Mobility is the place for you. We are developing the next generation of leaders and would love for you to join them. To join our team and help us transform cities and communities around the world, take a look at our career opportunities and apply today.
