Let's hit the road: Your journey to fully autonomous vehicles

Integrating May Mobility autonomous vehicles into your fleet can help solve transportation challenges. Learn how to make the most out of AV technology as we all work to get to Driver-Out.

Now is the time to get on the road to fully autonomous vehicles (AVs). Costs are rising, you don’t have enough drivers and your community needs better access. Autonomous vehicles are no longer a fantasy–you can integrate May Mobility AVs into your fleet and start solving your transportation challenges today.

May Mobility’s deploys its patented autonomous driving technology, Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM), for use in microtransit and fleets. By focusing on on-demand transportation in designated zones, we are able to address key mobility needs and challenges. Most of these deployments have had human supervision behind the wheel, but to make the most out of AV technology, we all need to get to Driver-Out.

The benefits of Driver-Out

Drivers do many important jobs– and are needed for managing the complex dynamics of a large bus. But, smaller vehicles used in microtransit and shuttles are ideal for driverless services; and can transform how transit networks and fleets work. A fully driverless service helps relieve worker shortages, simplifies operations, and changes on-demand transportation economics.

The increase in retirement-ready employees and a reduction in people entering the transportation workforce is a major challenge in the transportation industry. Fully Driver-Out offers an opportunity to expand fleets and transit access while making sure organizations can deploy their drivers in larger and more complex services where a human is needed.

Without having to worry as much about staffing, Driver-Out makes it easier to establish transportation options outside of normal operating hours. Additional service hours add convenience for riders and keep fleets productive without a cost premium after traditional working hours.

With full Driver-Out, you will also see per-hour costs drop by 25 to 50 percent compared to traditional microtransit operations, allowing you to more sustainably operate microtransit and fleets, and or commit those funds to where they are needed most.

May Mobility’s technology and mapping have matured to the point where we are planning Driver-Out operations in several communities. Don’t wait– simpler operations and economics await and getting you there is much easier than you may think.

May Mobility’s path to Driver-Out operations

For the last 7 years, we’ve progressed by leaps and bounds, and in December 2023 we launched our first driverless deployment in Sun City, Arizona! We’ve learned a lot and have been hard at work getting the next Driver-Out deployments ready to launch over the coming year. Every year we operate, our technology develops further, allowing us to operate in increasingly complex environments at faster speeds.

This means we are ready to start planning Driver-Out with you for any zone up to 50 mph.

Together, we look at service needs and develop a customized pathway for your community and fleet. Typically, we will start in one to a few suitable zones with Driver-In to introduce the service and concept. After 6-12 months and the community and technology are ready, we can transition, together, to the Driver-Out service. Over the next several years, additional zones and routes can be added in an iterative process, building out your AV microtransit and fleet services.

By creating a 5-year autonomous vehicle deployment plan together, our Driver-Out pathway allows you to get AVs out on the street now and start making the most out of our economical, sustainable, and customer-led AV service for years to come.

Driver Out is a collaborative effort

If you’re here, you’re considering the possibilities of autonomous transportation or are already taking the first steps to deploy an AV solution. Our autonomous vehicles are ready to work for you. When it comes to prioritizing transportation challenges and needs, you are in the driver’s seat. You know who needs improved access to transportation and where. You know the budget challenges and community expectations.

When you sit down with us, we can work out a clear path to success. We will work with you to map out your zones and develop a plan that gets you to Driver-Out services. And at May Mobility, we take pride in our transparency. Each of our customers receives access to our live data and metrics. When you know where and how our vehicles are behaving, you can make educated decisions on how to continue to grow the service. Technical and community milestones will help us guide you toward achieving Driver-Out operations.
